Road to G20 Event, a Collaborative Work of Central, Provincial, and Regencies

Jakarta – Belitung Island will host a Group of Twenty (G20) world event year 2022 on next September 7-9, 2022. It needs a thorough preparation to conduct the event smoothly.

In doing preparation, Bangka Belitung Provincial Government together with Belitung Regency Government, East Belitung Regency Government, and Central Government hold a meeting to discuss the main event and additional event like tourism and culture of Bangka Belitung Province on Tuesday (25/01/2022) at Meeting Room Floor 15 Sapta Pesona Building, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

On that occasion, Bangka Belitung Provincial Government was represented by the Deputy Governor and Head of the Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports office. Regent of Belitung was accompanied by staff from Belitung Tourism office. Vice Regent of East Belitung was accompanied by staff from East Belitung Culture and Tourism office, and staff from East Belitung Manpower, Cooperatives, and UMKM (micro, small, and medium enterprises) office. While, the ministry was represented by the Deputy of Tourism Product and Events.

Belitung Government proposed two[AS1]  events, such as the Charm of Belitung Beach Festival, and Belitong Creative Weeks. While, East Belitung Government proposed Jelajah Pesona Jalur Rempah 2022 (exploring the charm of the spice trail year 2022). However, the themes agreed by the audience were local wisdom (intangible cultural heritage), and Geo-Park heritage.

Head of the Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports office, Suharto mentioned several sport tourism and cultural events in the meeting.

“As the provincial government, we ask for support of related parties in carrying out the sport tourism and cultural events in order to help post pandemic tourism recovery,” said Suharto.

Director for National and International Event, Desi Ruhati agreed to support those events. However, she mentioned that national scale event should be organized by community or association, and got fully supported by provincial government, in this case Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports office.

After receiving the approval, Suharto instantly conveyed his administrative support as a requirement for the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to support the event.

Furthermore, Desi Ruhati hoped that events related to G20 will not only be held in Belitung, but also in Bangka Island

“I hope, these events related G20 are not be held in Belitung only, but also in Bangka to live up the G20 and to have economy equity from tourism,” she hoped.

She also said that the next meeting was not only conducted in Jakarta, but also in Bangka Belitung Province.

“The next meeting will not be held in Jakarta only, it can be conducted in Bangka Belitung Province. So, there will be economy equity,” said Desi Ruhati in closing statement.
