SIJUK – The acting governor of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung (Babel) province visited Bukit Peramun geosite on Friday (29/11/2024). He came to inspect the development and to support the geopark as the world heritage on Belitung Island.

Peramun has implemented a QR Code digital system since 2017. It is to simplify visitors to access information on flora and fauna in the 115-hectare forest. In the next three years, in 2020, Arsel Community improved it into an Android application named Kepo (Kenali Pohon or Know the Trees). It directly informs visitors about the trees through hologram audio and video.

On 30th May 2023, Peramun Hill was awarded by the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) as the first community-based digital forest in Indonesia. It was previously awarded by the Ministry of Tourism in Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA) in 2019.

Managed by Arsel Community, Peramun Hill is a UNESCO Global Geopark located in Air Selumar village, Sijuk district, Belitung regency. It is known for its unique granite boulder formation which is typical of many areas on the island. It is often visited by visitors because it has an amazing view and geology.

One of its main attractions is granite boulders naturally shaped by nature for millions of years. It is also known for its natural diversity including flora and fauna around the hill. It is an interesting educational attraction combining geology and natural beauty by giving a chance to visitors to study the historical geology of the Island. This geosite is a part of the preservation and geological-based tourism which is popular for both national and international tourists.

The word Peramun comes from the word peramu or ramu or peramuan. It has been a part of the local tradition since a long time ago which come to the hill to find various herbs for medicine.

There are 147 identified flora including important plants like Pulai (Alstonia sp.), fragrant wood (Aquilaria Malaccensis), Ulin (Eusideroxylon Zwageri), Balau Merah (Shorea Belangeran), Karai (Horea Ovalis), and Vaticda Sumatrana.

For the rare animals, there are Tarsier (Cephalogachus bancanus) which is a typical animal of the province, Sambar deer (Cervus Unicolor), Kijang (Munciacus Muntjak) and 24 species of birds. (Natasya/SAS)
