Pangkalpinang – The 11th Regional Student Sports Week (POPDA) of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung (Babel) province was officially closed on Saturday (23/7/2022). Pangkalpinang team emerged as grand champion of the 2022 POPDA.
Contingent from Pangkalpinang city won 20 gold, 11 silver, and 10 bronze medals. The second position was Bangka regency with 7 gold, 8 silver, and 9 bronze medals while the third position was South Bangka regency with 6 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
On behalf of the governor of Babel, assistant I for administration and people’s welfare, Rofiko, said that these athletes would be trained for National Student Sports Week (POPNAS) XVI next year in Sumatera Selatan and Babel.
“The event is to select provincial athletes for POPNAS 2023,” he said in the closing ceremony.
He added that POPDA was a platform to select talented student-athletes to represent Babel in higher event.
“I ask BAPOPSI (Board for Developing Student Sports throughout Indonesia) and the provincial committee of each sport category to well train the winning athletes in order to have their best achievement in the POPNAS,” he said.
He said further that next POPDA XII will be held in Belitung. (RZ/ SAS/ZE)
