Pangkalpinang – The head of the provincial Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports office (Disparbudkepora) of Bangka Belitung (Babel) opened the All-Sumatra Gojukai Open Karate Championship 2025 in Sahabudin sports hall on Friday morning, 18/7.2025.
More than 500 athletes from various regions participated in the championship started from 18th to 20th July to win the governor’s trophy.
Wydia said that it was a positive event for youths, especially Babel’s youths, who would fight in the championship. It was also a gathering for karate athletes in all of Sumatra.
“I hope it will continue to be a national and even international event in Babel. We fully support it,” she said.
Similar to Wydia, the chairman of Babel’s Gojukai association (Komda) of Babel, Dody Kusdian, stated his commitment to develop karate through continuous championships in Babel.
“This will not be the last event. We plan to send the athletes who win the weight category to Malaysia as a reward for their achievement,” he said.
He said further that Komda had explored the possibility with the Indonesian Karatedo Gojukai Association to hold a national championship in Babel.
“We have delivered the desires to the national association. We want Babel to host the championship. It will surely bring a wide positive effect not only to sports but also to the regional economy,” he explained. (rz/sas)
