MENTOK – Students are learning about democracy beyond the classroom. Through the program “A Day as a Member of the Bangka Barat Regional House of Representatives (DPRD),” they have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the DPRD’s leadership and members, and gain a closer look at how the legislative body functions as a forum for voicing aspirations and overseeing regional development. Initiated by Fakhrur Rozy in collaboration with the Rumah Besti’s Literacy Community, this program serves as a practical political learning platform, encouraging the younger generation to be more confident in expressing their ideas, understanding public policy, and participating in monitoring the governance process.
In this political literacy program, participants have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the chambers where meetings, sessions, and various legislative proceedings take place. Throughout the event, the students demonstrate their enthusiasm through active communication and discussions with their elected representatives.
Fakhrur Rozy, Head of the Rumah Besti’s Literacy Community, said that this activity was designed to bring lessons on democracy closer to the lives of the younger generation. Through direct experience, participants are expected to go beyond a theoretical understanding of legislative institutions and grasp the importance of public participation in the development process.
“I hope this activity continues, as it serves to enhance the ability of young people to voice their ideas and concepts directly to stakeholders and policymakers,” said Fakhrur Rozy.
