Pangkalpinang – 113 athletes of the XXI National Sports Game (PON) 2024 in Aceh and Sumatera Utara on 8th – 20th September will fight in optimism.
Each of them declared their readiness to fight their best in the games. Tens of athletes from 24 sports categories said it to the acting governor of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung, Sugito.
Sugito was proud of the athletes. He expressed it in a ceremony before the athletes flying to Aceh and Sumatera Utara in Mahligai hall of his official residence on Sunday night, 1/9/2024.
“All of you, either athletes, coaches, or officials should keep the solidarity. Keep your sportsmanship. Keep the good name of our province. And, do your best,” he said.
The National Sports Committee (KONI) of Babel targets four gold medals in this PON besides other medals either from individual games like athletic, silat, bodybuilder or team games such as gateball, female football, and basketball.
“Pray to God. Our people have a big expectation to win as many as medals we can. The regional government and the people always pray you can give your best to the province,” he added.
The head of Babel’s KONI Ricky Kurniawan said that they had a full preparation. The contingent consisted of 133 athletes, 31 coaches, 8 managers, and 40 officials. The target was also higher than the previous games.
In the previous PON, Babel was in the 29th rank with 2 gold medals. The acting provincial secretary, Fery Afriyanto as the contingent’s head, targets the 26th rank with 4 gold medals.
“I believe we can reach our target. We’re fully prepared. Our athletes will make a new history,” he said. (Rangga/SAS)
