Pangkalpinang – Pepelingasih is an empowering program initiated by Ministry of Youth and Sports for Indonesian youth to take action on environmental issues, particularly waste management.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports holds this program from the regional to national level annually. At the national level, 34 youths from all Indonesian regions will join the competition. These youth will contribute in keeping the environment clean and sharing information related to it.
On that note, Bangka Belitung Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports Office (Disparbudkepora Babel) held Youth Representative for Environmental Care 2022 selection on June 10 to 13, 2022 at Renz Hotel. The selection is followed by 14 representatives from all Bangka Belitung regencies and city.
Herwanita, acting head of Babel Disparbudkepora opened this event. In her opening remarks, she said youth played a pivotal role in preserving the environment.
“Youth can take part in promoting environmental care. Take an ex-mining area for instance. Awareness regarding environmental impact is still low,” she said.
She hoped representatives for environmental care can contribute to raise awareness of the environment in Bangka Belitung. “I hope all of you can raise concerns in environmental issues.” she said.
After the opening ceremony, participants will conduct a series of activities. On day one, Pitra Ramadhan, and Orie Fachridho H. will share their knowledge regarding this program. On day two, participants will take some tests, including a psychological test, physical test, and deep interview. They also need to present their project report and do art performance.
On the last day, the participants will do some activities, such as collecting and sorting trash, environmental care campaign, green tourism campaign, site visit, and group discussion. (KTE/ZE/SAS)
