Pangkalpinang - Negel Sigit, a youngster from Bangka Belitung (Babel) province, has officially been selected as one of the 16 Indonesian representatives in the prestigious Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) 2026. This ASEAN–Japan youth exchange program will take place in Japan, Singapore, and Thailand, bringing together hundreds of young participants from Southeast Asian countries along with Japan to sail and learn together on the Nippon Maru ship.

It starts with Pre-Departure Training (PDT) in Jakarta from January 11 to 14, 2026, as an important preparation before joining the main program on the ship from January 15 to February 17, 2026. The entire program will be concluded with a Re-Entry agenda in Jakarta from February 17 to 19, 2026.

SSEAYP 2026 is the 49th batch since this program was initiated. It is organized by the Japanese Cabinet Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia. Through cultural discussions, leadership development, community service activities, as well as the exchange of ideas and experiences, participants are expected to strengthen networks of friendship and cross-national cooperation.

Negel Sigit expressed his gratitude and happiness to be one of the selected youth from Indonesia, while also representing Babel on the international stage. “I am very grateful and proud to be trusted as a representative. This is not just about me, but about the hopes and potential of the youth of Bangka Belitung,” he said.

He also delivered a motivational message to the young generation in his region.

"Never hesitate to dream big. Keep learning, be brave to try, and don’t be afraid of failure. Opportunities don’t come on their own; we have to seize them with effort and prayer," he added.

Fitriyanto, the Head of the Youth and Scouting Division of the provincial Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports Office of Babel, expressed his appreciation. He stated that Negel was a pride for the region.

"We are proud of this achievement. Make it a learning opportunity, strengthen your character, and remain humble. Carry the name of Bangka Belitung with integrity, and be an inspiration to other youths," he said.

It is hoped that the young ambassadors will emerge as those who can bridge cooperation, promote Indonesian culture, and bring the spirit of friendship at both the regional and international levels. (Khalimo)
