Tanjungpandan – Organized by the Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports office, the provincial government of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung (Babel) held the 12th Provincial Students Sports Week (POPDA) 2024 in Tanjung Pandan, Belitung starting from 23rd to 28th July.
The event was officially opened by the assistant for Economy and Development Hartono, to act on behalf of the acting governor, located on the yard of Gedung National, Tanjung Pandan, on Tuesday (23/07/2024).
Hartono said that student sports development played an important and strategic role in identifying talented future athletes.
“Students’ athletes can be developed systematically in sports centres such as sports vocational school, student coaching centres, and even school sports clubs. The training should be evaluated continuously in competitions,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to all Babel regional governments for their support in developing the athletes in the sports week.
He said further that this event was a selection to choose athletes for pre-National Students Sports Week (POPNAS) in Sumatera Barat in November.
“I hope to see talented athletes win the games in POPNAS and make a name for our beloved Serumpun Sebalai province. For the athletes, keep your competition spirit. For the committees and referees, do your best and uphold the rules,” he said.
Hundreds of young athletes from 6 regencies and 1 city of all Babel would compete in football, volleyball, basketball, takraw, badminton, tennis, boxing and silat. (reza/SAS)
