PULAU BESAR – The acting governor of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung (Babel) Suganda Pandapotan Pasaribu inspected the beach tourism potency during his working visit to Batu Betumpang village, Pulau Besar district, Bangka Selatan regency on Tuesday (5/9/23).

He made time to listen to the aspiration of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) expressed by the district head Maryanto on tourist attraction revival.

The beach has some uniqueness, especially the historical lighthouse built by Netherlands kingdom in the era of William III in 1888.

The 72 metres above sea level lighthouse used to function as navigational aid when Bangka Belitung still became the main sea lane. It is interesting for visitors who want to enjoy both beach and history.

Suganda expected that the attraction would have special attention. He asked Maryanto to make a proposal including building a bridge. Visitors needed about 200 m bridge to get to the island.

“It needs a feasibility study. Therefore, make a proposal. It’s interesting and it’ll become a part of the province’s history,” said Suganda.

Furthermore, either beach or aquaculture pond areas are good for mangroves. Suganda also suggested making a proposal to the provincial Marine Affairs and Fisheries office for mangrove conservation.

Maryono appreciated the visit. He would follow up on the suggestions and make proposals to the offices. He expected that the visit would bring about a change to the area.

“We are grateful. We’ll follow it up. Hopefully, our district, especially the village will be better in the future,” he said.” (Kris/SAS)
